Laser Therapy at Family Chiropractic

What is Laser?

Laser therapy on armLaser therapy, administered by low level laser or cold laser, is a highly effective way to accelerate healing in tissues. Phototherapy uses infrared light (a specific non-visible wavelength of light) in a focused beam which penetrates into tissue to stimulate cellular activity to reduce inflammation, reduce pain, increase tissue repair, and increase circulation.

What to Expect?

Treatment usually takes approximately 15 minutes, is completely painless, and in most cases, is undetectable, although sometimes some heat can be felt.  There are no risks with low level laser therapy (LLLT) other than eye damage if you look directly into the laser.  Because treatments are cumulative, in order to achieve a therapeutic effect, a minimum of 6 treatments at twice per week is recommended.  However, chronic conditions will usually need more sessions.

What Conditions Can Benefit?

  • Sports related injuries, such as tendonitis and sprain/strains (rotator cuff, tennis elbow, knee)
  • Low back and neck pain
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Osteoarthritis and joint pain
